SECURITY ALARMS

If you don’t want the hassle and additional expense of having security guards and officers in your business or home then a simple security alarm may be perfect for your needs. Most come in pre-fabricated packages (with a set amount of motion detectors or touch-sensitive fibres) that can be installed in short periods of time. If you opt to pay a bit extra your security system can be monitored in a control room by the security company and any abnormal readings or alerts can be responded to by the company or even the police.

Most security systems that are not custom designed use the same basic technology and infrastructure. In general the security system is attached to motion sensors in each room (usually attached to the top of a wall or hanging from the roof), and these sensors are set to alert the mainframe if any object larger than a dog moves in its field of vision. This signal is sent to the alarm computer (sometimes attached to the outside wall of a house or hidden in a wall), which will then set off a high pitched warning sound to alert the home owner and surrounding neighbours. If the alarm has been triggered by the home owner themselves, they have a set amount of time to get to the control panel (usually near the front door or other entrance) and use their preset pin number to disable the alarm. If it is an intruder that has triggered the alarm, a loud siren will go off after the allotted warning time has passed. This will in turn alert the security service or police, or will encourage the neighbours to investigate.
